Compact Rock is the brainchild of Steve "Brodie" Kratz, a long-time veteran of the Upstate New York music and radio scene.
In 2019, Brodie had realized that there was not a show that combined the best "CD Rock" of the 1990's with the one-hit wonders, and the coolest hip-hop of the era.
With that Compact Rock was born. It is Brodie's mission to reignite the flame that was 90's music and rekindle a passion for music that truly influenced a generation. The "Electric Circus" as he calls it, are the fruits of that labor of love.
And his means to do so are simple: Play the best music, have fun, and be interactive. He does so with many features, all of which you will find out more about on this site.
He plays the best local artists from all over New York State with the Local Orange Peel! He also provides you From The Garage, a weekly highlight of all of the best local, original music from New York. You can also go to Soundcloud for Local Spotlight. Every other Friday, he will play a local artist and play their record front to back, unedited, as the artist intends you to hear it.
There is live music every week at 10:30 PM with a segment aptly titled LIVE:10:30.
He also lets the listener be a part of the show and pick the playlist with the Randomizer. You pick five songs, and The Randomizer picks three of those to play on the show!
Brodie truly believes that this is your Thursday Night Rock Delight, and requests your presence, as you hop on the Mothership and join the Electric Circus.
Rekindle your passion for the 90's. Find that song that you forgot about and join the revolution.

ABOUT THE HOST
Steve "Brodie" Kratz has been in the local music and radio industry for the better part of over 30 years. Steve started in radio back in 1995 in college in Rochester, NY. In two years in Rochester, Steve became the sports director and play by play man at his college radio station and sports director at that school newspaper.
In 1999, shortly after attending Woodstock '99, Steve started a four year run at local radio in Syracuse and Utica, NY. In that time, he worked in Classic Rock, Modern Rock, Classic Hits and Standards both in an on air, and production capacity. He also was a fixture on the road at events. During that time, Steve also was working at a local newspaper in Oneida, NY as a sports aggregate reporter and columnist.
Steve, or Brodie has he was known at this time, was also able to be seen in local music. Steve can be found writing, singing, and recording for such artists as Ronnie Dark and his original local group Darkroom. Steve has recorded one full length album with Darkroom in 2015 and was planning to release a new record in 2020 before the world changed. That still might happen, but only he knows when and where. Steve is also a two-time finalist for best rock band and one-time finalist for best male vocalist in the Syracuse New Times with Darkroom. He also placed third in the Best Of Syracuse 2025 awards for Best Media Personality, behind only a social media influencer and their alter-ego.
Now, Steve can be found at his weekday job, celebrating two years of sobriety with his three cat-boys, and providing you the best 90's music every week on Compact Rock and From The Garage.
